Words that Resonate

Works

A collection of verse exploring identity, loss, love, and the search for what's real.

Play It Safe

For fear of falling
Please don’t jump
To keep from crying
Never get hurt
To stop the bleeding
Don’t get cut
If you’re afraid to die
Try not to live

Undecided

A lost love turned up
Floating in the ether
Above your mind
Just as it had been
Now it is so
Again
“And…
You will tell
Only the truth…”
A confession held by
Minutes
Months
And years
A decaying declaration
Born on
Sullied ground
Finds a burial note
On their pillow
“And…
You will tell nothing
But the honest
Truth…”
So sad
Still more ecstatic
To have won
A peace
At another’s expense
It now seems so
Indifferent
After all
What wouldn’t you pay
To return that piece
To your mind
“And…
All that went before
Now burns in the light
Of this truth…”
The mistake
Now corrected
The analysis stops
But to move on
Pays heed
To the calls of
A new adventure
“Or this change…
Should you choose
To decide…”

Her Name Is…

On a balmy autumn’s eve
Under incandescent lights
My senses did take leave
As my head grew black as night
For a maiden took my eye
As fair as Christmas snow
She blew a kiss so high
Still how was I to know
She’s not one to be tasted
Or to even be enjoyed
For her heart and soul were wasted
On one who left a void
She cries a laugh of sadness
And smiles through searing tears
She’ll not be hurt again
For now she has no fears
Her name is…

Hidden and Seeking

For lack of a better word
What…
Is this?
Unnamed
Uncharted
Unlimited
One wall meets a door
And the impassable opens
With a question
To look
And if you allow it
You just might see
That what we’ve been told
Does not exist
So in fact does
Fairly tales of cynicism and fear
Non facts breeding with non truths
Copulating predjudice
Into a false religion
Once misunderstood
Now just mistaken
For someone you have never
Really been
Safe in secrecy
Not bound by conformity
Living a life
Uncompromised
For the blind nonbelievers
You are a face in the crowd
For the one’s who can see
You are not one of them
For the few who can hear
You are heard but not taken
But for the ones who still feel…
You are an answered prayer

Dependency

Holding onto broken glass
My memories never die
Though the pain might numb
Or fail to sting
I never question why
I never let my wounds heal
Though I lick them all the time
I will not wonder why this is
But continue to call them mine
I focused once on a hard rubber ball
And kicked until it popped
I cried to see the ball deflate
So I kicked harder and couldn’t stop
I just don’t know
I just don’t know
Though I know the vowel “y”
Why someone won’t sweep up
The broken glass
Before my life’s
A lie

The Homecoming

You do not belong to me
Anymore
This place, this dream, this life,
All gone wrong
Like the flesh of an overripened fruit
Turning rancid on the vine
Ten years gone
Did it take that long?
To win and lose it all
Over and over and over again
Do tell
Does everyone forget to breathe now and then?
Love won, love lost
Dreams fought for, then forgot
Is it always a war
That we can never have done
Or might they have just titled this game wrong?
Who can tell us our limits
Our strength and our time here
There are no easy answers
Just hard climbs and harder falls
If that’s what you wish to call them
But for me, for now, forever
This is finished
I do not live here anymore
Here, is where I die
Running the plays through
Over and over and over again
In my mind
On the empty field
Where lovers, friends, and adversaries
Once stood with me
And played the biggest game in the world
With four letters
The best they could…
And yet it is hard to tell myself
That no one has won or lost
When no one is left…
But me

Just Blood

I died
when they dragged you away
You left a trail to follow
at the expense of your own sweet life
I fell to my knees
to embrace you
But you just
slipped through my fingers
I could not
hold you against me
So I took you
inside
Drop by drop
I collected your lost pain
Cannibals and vampires
drink because they love to
I only drank
because I loved you
